Ah, the humble gumboot. Or as the rest of the world calls them: Wellington Boots.

Originally worn by officers in the British Army, they’ve been around since the late 1700s. It was Arthur Wellesley (The Duke of Wellington) who popularised this boot in 1817.

We’ll spare you the in-depth history lesson, but let’s take a moment to appreciate the transformation of the Wellington Boot from military uniform to aristocrat fashion. Arthur, you biscuit!

In more modern times, who can forget the gorgeous Kate Moss elevating the Wellies vibe to epic proportions, as she set the trend at Glastonbury 2005. Since then, gumboots have undoubtedly become a fundamental essential for festival goers around the world.
